The VERTEX Companies, Inc. is looking for a dynamic, energetic individual to join our team as a Fire Investigator.  VERTEX is a growing, multi-national consulting firm headquartered in Weymouth, MA that is looking to augment our team of talented individuals.   The successful candidate will possess the ability to operate within fast-paced schedules and tight deadlines on multiple projects as necessary.  Successful candidates will be able to collaborate with senior staff, manage projects, and interact with clients.    The candidate should be capable of using advanced training and expertise, investigating, inspecting, and interpreting complex evidence of fire/explosion damage to residential and commercial buildings, vehicles, etc. and determining origin and cause.   Core Responsibilities - Inspect assigned fire sites as prescribed by company policy and industry standards, including, but not limited to appropriate digital and film photography, video, diagrams, written and recorded statements. - Document, collect (tags and bags), secure, and transport evidence in a manner prescribed by Vertex policy and industry standards. Insure chain of custody procedures are followed. - Promote and provide superior customer service and responsiveness to customer needs. - Complete all fire investigations in a timely manner. Provide written reports that are clear and concise, written in a manner that conforms to Vertex policies and industry standards. - Promote Vertex to expand business opportunities with new and existing client companies. - Sustain and maintain current knowledge of approved Fire Investigation methodology and fire science. - Meet or exceed productivity levels as determined by company policy. - Attend in-service training as required and maintain all required licenses and certifications.   Position Requirements - Complies with all company safety programs and other policies and procedures. - Must have a general knowledge of failure analysis, product liability and subrogation. - Demonstrates advanced investigative skills. - May have the responsibility of being assigned Lead Investigator on large and/or complex cases.  - Moderate travel and/or field work (valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required). - Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients and subcontractors. - Able to work with Sr. Managers to address technically complex projects in a fast paced environment. - Other duties as assigned.   Qualifications Education - Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or university in Engineering, Fire Investigation, Fire Science, or Criminal Justice.  Specific professional work experience maybe considered as a substitute for education requirements. Experience: - 5-10 years of Fire Cause and Origin Investigation experience in a State, county or Municipal public safety agency - At least 2 years of experience conducting private fire cause and origin investigations for the insurance industry.   Knowledge & Skills   - Certified Fire Investigation (IAAI-CFI) and/or Certified Fire and Explosive Investigation (NAFI-CFEI) accreditation - MUST have a complete understanding and working knowledge of NFPA 921 and the skills required by NFPA 1033. - Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and have the ability to perform exceptionally under fast paced conditions. - Proficient in computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe). Project Manager/Senior Engineer/Geologist   The position is a seller-doer role.  Primary responsibilities would include management of brownfields redevelopment projects, leaking underground storage tank cleanups, RCRA closures, and other hazardous waste investigation and remediation projects.    Duties and Responsibilities - Plan, implement, and supervise Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and soil, soil vapor, and ground water investigation and remediation projects. - Conduct and supervise hydrogeologic studies, risk assessments, and ground water and chemical transport modeling. - Develop and implement effective health and safety plans to monitor and ensure the health and safety of site personnel. - Analyze environmental data and contaminant migration pathways. Plan and supervise environmental assessments to close data gaps. - Perform waste characterization to assess the requirements for remediation and waste disposal. - Estimate remediation costs and conduct feasibility studies and disproportionate cost analyses under Washington’s Model Toxics Control Act and other regional state regulatory programs. - Evaluate remedial technologies and process options; and perform treatability studies and pilot tests on selected remedial alternatives. - Design and oversee installation and operation of remedial systems that effectively treat hazardous waste and hydrocarbon impacted soil and groundwater. (VERTEX) is looking for a Civil Engineering Sr. Project Manager with a passion for the design of site and infrastructure projects, the ability to meet or exceed client expectations, and the skills to lead the technical requirements of projects. This individual will be responsible for the quality of engineering services and deliverables, client relations, financial performance of personnel and project teams, business development, contract management, invoicing, and collections. Lauderdale, FL or Corporate Headquarters in Weymouth, MA Here are the essential job functions of this position: Things you’ll be doing: - Designing, Implementing, and Documenting advanced cybersecurity solutions for our customers in concert with outside vendors and consultants - Manage Advanced Endpoint policies, definitions, and administration - Perform Vendor Security Risk Audits and Assessments - Perform Vulnerability Scans - Incident Reporting and Management - Advise on Compliance and Regulatory Security Changes as necessary - Respond to breaches and security incidents in an urgent manner - Monitor email domain for potential exposures to risk and act on potential breaches - Develop, Advance, and Maintain areas of a specific IT Discipline – Cyber Security - IT Consultation with clients to improve their structure and security. - Report to and work with Project Managers on both internal and external IT Projects - Mentor team members on technical issues - Liaise with IT Vendors and other personnel to resolve problems. - Collaborate closely with team members to solve critical problems and maintain our aggressive SLAs. - Firewall and Security Appliance management To do this, we’d prefer you have: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent program in Information Security, Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or similar field experience is required -or- at least 10 years of professional IT experience, five of them in a cybersecurity role -or- any combination of practical experience and education - Experience with Security Audits and Risk Assessments - Experience with remote administration of Security Solutions - A solid understanding of core networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ALGs, firewall policy implementation, packet capture analysis, etc.) - Ability to work independently on a variety of assignments with minimal supervision - Ability to initiate, coordinate and prioritize responsibilities and follow through on tasks to completion - Excellent written and oral communication skills - Organizational and self-directing skills And it would be a huge plus if you had: - Completion of any of these certifications is a significant plus: Security+, Network+ CySA+, CISSP, CCNP Sec, GSE, SSCP, GSEC, MCSE - Experience in penetration testing - Experience with SIEM solutions - Experience with security incident responses - Experience with Security Awareness Training
