    Responsibilities

    Structural Engineer EIT

     

    The Vertex Companies, Inc. is looking for a Structural Engineer Intern to join our team in our Petaluma, CA office. The position requires responsibilities for performing structural design engineering. The Vertex Companies, Inc. solutions span the globe and support a full range of building projects.

     

    The Structural Engineer Intern will be expected to perform a variety of tasks that support the overall goals of the company. Day to day activities include but are not limited to:


    Core Responsibilities (Under the Direct Supervision and Direction of a Professional Engineer)


    • Carry out structural engineering design of architectural, site, and civil structures.
      • Assist in the preparation of engineering plans, construction drawings, cost estimates and specifications.
      • Assist in the preparation of required professional documents and reports that are needed to carry out and complete a project.
      • Provide CAD support for all projects as necessary, using AutoCAD and Revit.
      • Direct interaction with the client, owner, other engineering consultants, and contractors as directed by his/her supervisor.
      • Carry out construction administration responsibilities such as shop drawing review, responding to contractor questions, and site inspections.
      • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.
      • Other duties as assigned by management.

     

    Position Qualifications

    Education
    • BS in Civil or Architectural Engineering required
    • MS in Structural Engineering preferred

    Experience

    • Experience in the design of architectural structures, preferred, with an engineering intern registration (EI).

    Knowledge & Skills
    • Basic knowledge on interpreting engineering plans.
    • Good technical writing abilities are required.
    • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and have the ability to perform exceptionally under high stress conditions.
    • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages.
    • Basic knowledge of the residential (IRC), commercial (IBC) and existing (IEBC) I- codes.
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD and or Revit is preferred but not required.

    Physical Requirements

    • Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
      • Able to walk on sloped roofs.
      • Able to work in small spaces (attics, crawl spaces).
