    Responsibilities

    The Vertex Companies, Inc. is looking for a talented, entrepreneurial professional who welcomes challenging project and schedule. The ideal candidate would:

    • Hold the Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation. A preferred candidate would hold the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) with the ability to get the CSP designation within 18 -24 months of employment
    • Have experience with all phases of commercial building construction
    • Understand loss control practices
    • Be willing to travel (estimate 50+ % of the time)

    The candidates’ skills would primarily complement loss control efforts at construction projects (both in planning stages and ongoing) nationwide (including Hawaii).  The candidate would work in conjunction with new construction at the forefront of the industry currently in progress across the United States, as well as the challenge of working with VERTEX staff in a variety of disciplines.

    Specific Description:

    • Provide preliminary project review of Health and Safety Plan/Hurricane Preparedness Plan
    • Coordinate both internally with VERTEX colleagues and owner/contractors to conduct on site Health and Safety audits based on OSHA regulations and consensuses standards
    • Manage workflow and prepare investigative reports and findings to senior management and clients (primarily insurance carriers)
    • Attention to detail / Client satisfaction is essential

    Core Responsibilities

    • A strong understanding of construction scheduling, sequencing, and general practices to assist in identifying potential loss control issues for large-scale construction projects nationwide
    • Coordinate with other VERTEX engineers/architects in the preparation of technical reports for clients
    • Be able to discuss workplace health and safety exposures liability concepts with clients in order to make recommendations to help mitigate identified issues
    • Maintain client relationships, managing/tracking incoming assignments, satisfying client requests
    • Perform inspections and write reports for various services provided by VERTEX
    • Implement and track safety protocols and on-site concerns, including follow up on all recommendations
    • Represent VERTEX to clients in a professional manner

    Position Requirements

    • Construction management experience related to a variety of building types/sizes; possess knowledge of construction scheduling, sequences, and general practices.
    • Knowledge of ‘OCIP / CCIP’ property loss control and experienced in performing property field surveys of commercial and light to medium hazard industrial occupancies
    • Ability to coordinate travel to sites in an efficient and cost-effective manner
    • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients and contractors
    • Travel and/or field work may be required (valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required)
    • Must be available for overnight travel for meetings and duties associated performing on-site inspections
    • Able to work with minimal oversight, but take direction effectively from managers
    • Able to meet deadlines, both internally and externally driven
    • Other project duties as assigned by senior staff

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene; Process Controls Construction Management, Engineering, Sciences, Architecture or similar
    • Hold the Certified Health and Safety Technician (CHST) designation. A preferred candidate would hold the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) with the ability to get the CSP designation within 18 -24 months of employment

    Experience

    • 3+ years of construction health and safety, variety of project types helpful

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Must be able to schedule and perform complex tasks under stress conditions
    • Proficient in computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe and proprietary tracking software)
    • Effective communicator, verbal and written
    • Efficient, well-organized and positive attitude when approached with challenges and realities of construction management and consulting

    Special

    • OSHA-10hr and OSHA-30hr construction certificate, OSHA-40 HAZWOPER and/or OSHA 500 is preferable
    • Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain and all-weather conditions
    • The ability to safely scale ladders
