    The Vertex Companies, Inc. is looking for an Engineer-In-Training (civil or structural) to join our team in Dallas, TX/Boston, MA/Atlanta, GA!

    The candidate we are looking for will be involved in a wide variety of tasks, including assisting senior staff with construction document review, contractor and developer communication, forensic investigations of buildings, code research, failure analysis, scope of repair preparation, and report writing. These activities will generally be performed for insurance claim loss control/prevention, construction defect litigation matters, insurance property claims, and property condition assessments. This is a great opportunity to learn more about building systems through site inspections, hands-on analysis, and detailed assessment of industry practices and standards. This is not a traditional design position.

    Specific Job Description:

    Provide support and organization for loss control service focused on large construction projects nationwide including high-rise towers, airport infrastructure, and multifamily housing. Client satisfaction is essential.

    Core Responsibilities

    • Assist with providing loss control consulting services to clients.
    • Manage organization and assessment of large volumes of documents, drawings and photographs.
    • Effective management of all assigned tasks; meeting budget and delivery time frames; ensuring client satisfaction.
    • Ensuring that assignments are executed with technical proficiency, accuracy, and professionalism.
    • Willingness to become trained in providing forensic consulting services if candidate has no previous forensic experience.
    • Periodic same day travel to assignments in region and limited overnight travel.
    • Developing technical specialization and expertise that benefits the company and broadens our service offerings.
    • Professional development, continuing education, and advancement of credentials. Individuals should have independent initiatives as well as company-sponsored development goals.
    • Other tasks as assigned by Senior Management.

    Position Requirements

    • Previous experience in construction management or the design of commercial or residential structures is ideal. No forensic experience is necessary, although welcomed.
    • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients and subcontractors.


    Education / Registration

    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field.
    • Advanced degree not required but beneficial.
    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required, with the ability to obtain Professional Engineering licensure in the future.


    • Prefer 1 to 3 years of experience in design and construction related activities of residential and commercial structures or design and inspection of residential and commercial structures.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities.
    • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe) required.
    • Knowledge of the residential (IRC), commercial (IBC) and existing (IEBC) I-codes preferred.


    • Able to carry and operate a 24-foot extension ladder unassisted.
    • Able to walk on sloped roofs.
    • Able to work in small spaces on occasion (attics, crawl spaces).
    • Position requires OSHA 10 certification, training provided if necessary
