    The Vertex Companies, Inc. (VERTEX) is looking for a Civil Engineering Sr. Project Manager with a passion for the design of site and infrastructure projects, the ability to meet or exceed client expectations, and the skills to lead the technical requirements of projects. This individual will be responsible for the quality of engineering services and deliverables, client relations, financial performance of personnel and project teams, business development, contract management, invoicing, and collections. This individual will also plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of his/her project teams to ensure that project objectives are accomplished. Establishing work plans and assigning personnel as appropriate for successful execution is also a responsibility. In addition, this individual will direct and coordinate the activities of Project Engineers, Engineers, Designers and CADD Technicians to ensure that project schedules and budgets are met or bettered. The individual will initiate, prepare, direct and review the preparation of proposals and SOQs as well as participate in client/project interviews and presentations as appropriate. Most importantly, the individual will maintain positive client relationships and constantly seek new client and project opportunities. This position will sit in either our Weymouth or Boston MA office. 



    • Quality of service and deliverables.
    • Client management.
    • Staff planning and utilization.
    • Develop and/or implement communication protocols; internal and external.
    • Budget development and management.
    • Service agreement management; scope and fee.
    • Invoicing and collections.
    • Financial performance; profitability of projects.
    • Conduct and manage the performance reviews of subordinates.


    Position Requirements

    • Superior people skills, i.e. strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
    • Maintains appropriate personnel training opportunities that are consistent with the career development program, and prudent with respect to a consistent and high-quality service offering.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of annual business plans for the group/department.
    • Able to solicit new clients and projects, and obtain repeat and referral business from existing clients.
    • Provides and solicits innovative thought and actions.  




    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering required MS preferred.
    • Registered as a Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain within a year.



    • Minimum of 8 years of design experience and progressively increasing level of Land Development and Site Development project and client management.
    • Technical background; drainage, grading, utilities, permitting.
    • Strong experience in project management and the ability to manage multiple projects.
    • Staff management experience.
    • Financial management of projects.
    • Proposal and budgeting experience or desire to grow into thos role is a plus.
    • Business Development experience or desire to grow into this role is a plus.


    Knowledge & Skills

    • Minimum of intermediate skill with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word, Excel and Microsoft Project.
    • LEED Accreditation or ENV Sustainability Professional a plus.


    • OSHA-10 or -30 certifications preferred.


    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain.
    • Ability to carry construction tools and equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity.
