    Responsibilities

    The Vertex Companies, Inc. is looking for a versatile Structural Engineering Intern. VERTEX is growing at a rapid rate and there is an incredible opportunity to join the team to work on a plethora of diverse projects.

    The Structural Engineering Intern will be expected to perform a variety of tasks that support the overall goals of the company.

    Structural Engineering Intern

    Core Responsibilities

    • Utilize computer automated design (REVIT) program and other resources to design, draft, and prepare structural plans detailing structural systems for buildings and similar structures.
    • Work under the supervision of staff in the Denver,CO office with potential assignments from staff in other offices throughout the United States.
    • The qualified applicant must be able to coordinate with staff to ensure timely and accurate document and drawing preparation. 
    • Under the supervision of senior staff, learn how to develop framing plans, connection details, calculate load paths, and design structural members.
    • Must be capable of performing independent drafting and modelling tasks and reviewing self-performed work before sending to staff for review.Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed.
    • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.
    • Other duties as assigned by Senior Staff.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Enrollment in an ABET accredited BS Engineering program required. Junior or Senior year preferred.

    Experience

    • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Previous experience working in a professional office preferred but not required.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • We are seeking dependable, highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills who will be responsive to the needs of our clients and be able to communicate with our staff, local jurisdictions, and consultants.
    • The qualified applicant must be interested in growing with us in a fun, challenging environment and able to work well with others.
    • Meets expectations for attendance and punctuality.
    • Applicant must have sucessfully completed coursework in structural analysis and statics.
    • We prefer candidates who have completed coursework for structural design of at least 2 of the 4 primary structural materials: steel, concrete, wood, or masonry.
    • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and work with as a team with senior staff to meet deliverable deadlines.
    • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (REVIT, AutoCAD, and MS Office) required.

    Special

    • OSHA-10 or -30 certifications preferred.
    • Knowledge of the International Building Code provisions, and ASCE7.
    • Experience using structural analysis software, such as RISA, RAM Structural System, Enercalc, or similar programs preferred but not required.

    Physical Requirements

    • Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain.
    • Carry construction tools and equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity.
    • Occasional travel to construction site to inspect and be physically mobile in and around construction sites. (Valid driver’s license in good standing required)
