    The Vertex Companies, Inc. is looking for an Engineer-In-Training or Architectural Associate to join our team in Stamford, Connecticut!

    The candidate we are looking for will be involved in a wide variety of tasks, including assisting senior staff with forensic investigations of buildings, code research, construction document review, and failure analysis, scope of repair preparation, product research, and report writing. These activities will generally be performed for construction defect litigation matters, insurance property claims, and property condition assessments. In addition to having architectural design experience, basic knowledge of building envelope assemblies is required. This is a great opportunity to learn more about building systems through site inspections, hands-on analysis, and detailed assessment of industry practices and standards. This is not a traditional design position.

    Specific Job Description:

    Core Responsibilities

    • Assist with providing forensic consulting services to clients.
    • Willingness to become trained in providing forensic consulting services if candidate has no previous forensic experience.
    • Experience with construction defect litigation a plus but not required.
    • Manage organization and assessment of large volumes of documents, drawings and photographs.
    • Effective management of all assigned tasks; meeting budget and delivery time frames; ensuring client satisfaction.
    • Ensuring that assignments are executed with technical proficiency, accuracy, and professionalism.
    • Single day travel to assignments in region one to three days per week and periodic overnight travel.
    • Developing technical specialization and expertise that benefits the company and broadens our service offerings.
    • Professional development, continuing education, and advancement of credentials. Individuals should have independent initiatives as well as company-sponsored development goals.
    • Other tasks as assigned by Senior Management.

    Position Requirements

    • Previous experience in the design or assessment of residential and/or commercial structures.
    • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients and subcontractors.


    Education / Registration


    • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field.
    • Advanced degree not required but beneficial.
    • Working towards professional registration (PE or RA).


    • Prefer a minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in design and construction related activities of residential and commercial structures or design and inspection of residential and commercial structures.

    Knowledge & Skills

    • Knowledge of the residential (IRC), commercial (IBC) and existing (IEBC) I-codes preferred.
    • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities.
    • Knowledge of computer operations and standard software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, Adobe) required.


    • Able to carry and operate a 24-foot extension ladder unassisted.
    • Able to walk on sloped roofs.
    • Able to work in small spaces on occasion (attics, crawl spaces).
