 Description

VERTEX is looking for a talented, entrepreneurial professional who welcomes challenge, to work within the company’s Construction Consulting Services division (Owner’s Project Management, Construction Management, and Surety Consulting Services) in the Honolulu office.  The candidate will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects and working with senior staff.  The ideal candidate has a well-rounded background in construction contracts and standard procedures.

 

Core Responsibilities

Support senior staff with the following activates:

  • Reviewing and interpretation of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Monitoring and assessment of construction performance and compliance with construction documents
  • Maintain project documentation, including RFIs, Submittals, Pay Applications, Closeout Documents
  • Investigate and analyze performance and payment bond claims
  • Analyze project documents relating to defect and warranty claims

  • Site investigations and assistance with preparation of technical reports
  • Project schedule creation, management, and analysis
  • Assistance with file setup, filing, and other administrative tasks
  • Ensuring that assignments are executed with technical proficiency, accuracy, and professionalism
  • Making employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy
  • Representing VERTEX to clients in a professional manner

 

Position Requirements

  • Travel and/or field work may be required
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers, clients, and contractors
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight, but take direction effectively from senior staff
  • Ability to meet deadlines, both internally and externally driven
  • Other project duties as assigned by senior staff

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture preferred, but not required with additional field experience

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience required
  • Work in a professional consulting setting is preferred
  • Candidates must be familiar with interpreting construction drawings, specifications, contracts, cost estimates, and construction schedules
  • Experience in activities directly related to claim management and investigation a plus, but not required

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must be able to take direction from senior staff
  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities, and can perform exceptionally under high stress conditions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Efficient, well-organized and positive attitude when approached with challenges and realities of construction management and consulting
  • Requires excellent technology, computer, and document management proficiencies
  • Proficiency or working knowledge of Primavera Contract Management a plus
  • Proficiency or working knowledge of Primavera P6 a plus
  • Proficiency or working knowledge of CAD a plus
  • Estimating skills are a plus

 

Special

  • OSHA-10 or -30 certification preferred, but not required
  • CDT certification a plus

 

Physical Requirements

  • Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain
  • Carry construction tools and equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites
