Responsibilities

VERTEX is looking to fill an Engineer in Training role in our Denver, CO office. This candidate will perform design tasks on increasingly non-routine and complex projects as assigned by experienced engineers, with increasing levels of engineering judgment applied as experience is gained. This candidate will utilize prescribed methods, and perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignments. Additionally, the candidate will perform and direct the preparation of design and construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, supporting documents and permit applications with a team of CADD Technicians, Designers and other Engineers, with an increasing level and frequency of supervision and scheduling of team members. In this role, the individual will work closely with other discipline Engineers on multi-discipline projects.

 

Engineer in Training  - Civil Engineering

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Performs and verifies design computations and plan preparation for conformance with codes, manuals, and design considerations
  • Researches code requirements and design procedures manuals
  • Coordinates with other Engineers, CADD Technicians, and administrative assistants during preliminary and final document preparation and agency processing
  • Seeks technical support and advice from peers and experienced professionals to increase knowledge
  • Prepares draft correspondence, technical specifications, studies and design reports
  • Attends and participates at client and agency meetings as appropriate

Position Requirements

  • Utilizes AutoCAD and various software applications
  • Visits project sites to review conditions as appropriate
  • Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes
  • Adheres to communication protocols with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others as appropriate for the project

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or other related field is required. Registration as an Engineer-in-Training is preferred.

Experience

  • 2-4 years of experience.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Word, Excel and Microsoft Project.

Special

  • OSHA-10 or -30 certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to carry construction tools and equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity.
